History

The Blackfoot Band was formed in 1975 by Fred Sasakamoose, Doug Cuthand, and Brent Burge. The band was originally called the “Blackfoot Banditos” and was originally a cover band, playing songs by artists such as Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and Neil Young. In the early days, the band was heavily influenced by traditional Blackfoot music, incorporating elements of the traditional pow-wow style and drumming into their performances.

In the late 1970s, the band began to write and record their own music, and in 1979 they released their debut album, “Blackfoot: Music From the Heart of the Nation.” The album featured songs written by Fred Sasakamoose, Doug Cuthand, and Randy Seaward. He is a member of the Ojibwe Nation and was born in Ontario in 1961. He has been playing keyboards since the early 1980s and is known for his improvisational playing style.
